Vegetable biryani - The quick version, right in the microwave.
Soak 1 cup rice for 15 min. Chop 1 onion, 1 carrot, 1 potato and few green beans.
grind a piece of ginger and 3 cloves of garlic (i just roughly ground them in my mortar).
A tbsp oil or ghee in the pan, add 1 bay leaf, 3 cloves, 1 star anise and 2 cardamom pods.
Saute onions, and add the ginger & garlic. Add the veggies and saute for a few minutes more.
Add 1 tsp tomato paste, cumin and corriander powder (1/2 tsp), and chili powder (1/4 tsp).
Saute for a few min more.
Drain rice, mix with veggies.
Add everything to a microwave rice cooker (or any microwave safe bowl), add 2 cups water, and salt.
Cook for 17 min. Let it sit for 5 more min in the microwave before opening.
Serve with yogurt or raita.
